From humble beginnings
We started with a small team of under five passionate marketers, who had a vision of how a better digital marketing agency might operate. Working from an apartment in downtown Toronto, we dedicated ourselves to our clients and started getting PPC marketing results that we could be proud of. From there, we’ve seen our clients and our agency grow, scale up and hit new milestones across organic and paid media efforts.

2016: The Founding
Search & Gather Inc. was officially founded by Drew and Doug, who met at a startup called RateSupermarket and discovered a shared passion for strategic marketing and helping startups grow. Starting from consulting contracts, the company was formalized in 2016, beginning with two clients and operating out of Drew’s Toronto apartment.
2017: Early Team Growth
The company’s client base began to expand, leading to Michael Lum joining the team in early 2017. Drew and Michael worked together in the apartment office, while Doug handled sales calls from creative spots in the apartment. After successfully partnering with several startups and mid-sized businesses, Search + Gather expanded its client base and service offerings to include conversion rate optimization, analytics and display advertising.
2018: Expanding Operations
The growing client base necessitated a move to a house office near Trinity Bellwoods. Amanda joined the team after an informal front porch employment offer, marking another milestone in Search + Gather’s collaborative and adaptive culture.
2019: First Official Office
With a steady increase in clients and team size, Search + Gather moved into their first official office on Hook Avenue in the Junction, Toronto. This marked a shift from the home-based startup phase to a more formal business environment where we could continue expanding our digital marketing business.
2020-2021: Continued Expansion
The team expanded further, reaching 15 full-time members by late 2021. Search + Gather’s client portfolio grew to include notable brands such as ecobee, Bayshore, and HiMama (now Lillio). The agency's expertise in scaling startups and enterprise clients became widely recognized.
2022-2023: A Culture of Growth and Collaboration
Search + Gather’s growth journey was complemented by an emphasis on maintaining high-quality work and fostering a supportive and innovative team environment. The company embraced feedback reciprocity, ensuring all team members, regardless of position, were heard. This culture promoted mutual learning and continuous improvement, where both senior and junior members inspired and challenged each other.
2024: The Mission Continues
Search + Gather remains committed to scaling up startups and enterprise clients through data-driven and creative digital strategies. The company strives to empower its team by promoting shared wealth, power, and ideas, fostering an environment where ideas flourish and the team thrives together. Our team was excited to launch our repositioning and a new website in early 2025 alongside expanded services like SEO & GEO.
